About ME:
My name is Alexander Hjorthol and I am a 23 year old Oxford University graduate turned wildlife storyteller.
After 4 years spent pursuing the university path I felt I was mean to follow, while emboldened by the discipline it cultivated in me, I have finally worked up the courage to commit 100% of my attention to a dream I have had since I was 10 years old- to voice the wild, telling the stories of the animals who call it home.
My passion for wildlife storytelling grew from a love of nature which I have had for as long as I can remember. This love for the natural world developed into a drive to protect these spaces for generations to come, aware that to do this I need to first pique people’s interest in nature. This is what I wish to achieve via my wildlife photography, to utilise the portal of media to give people an authentic look into nature, with the aim to push them to get out there and experience it for themselves, and fall in love with it, just as I did all those years ago.
I owe my life to the natural world, and more importantly to Enrique Bermejo, my mentor who is sadly no longer with us, for showing me the power to change that a camera holds.
I have been lucky enough to have been able to visit many exotic places in the world, and yet my best photos I believe, have still been taken in Richmond Park, a true haven mere miles from central London. I encourage everyone to get out there, to discover a single place, a moment in nature which in turn will change their lives for the better, and cultivate a sense of duty to look after the natural world, just as it did for me.
